Chapter 03 - The Wine Cellar
The wine cellar, the noble heart of the castle
A space equipped with modern innovations since its construction: the first, historic barrel cellar of the Marchesi Alfieri winery is located beneath the orangery and houses about 250 French oak barrels from Allier and Tronçais and some larger traditional Piedmontese casks (“botti”).
The second barrel cellar lies adjacent to the original cellar and is characterized by its 500-liter barrels (“tonneaux”) and large traditional casks. It was created from a space under the perimeter of the castle, next to the historic kitchens.
Finally, in the old stables, there is the aging cellar. These spacious and functional environments are partly underground and naturally temperature-controlled, which effortlessly allows the wines to evolve in bottle until the moment when they are perfectly mature.
