| The
Barbera grape is historically Piedmontese as early
documents first mention its existence in the 1600's.
In the 1800's the Barbera grape was given the scientific
(ampelographic) denomination of "vitis vinifera
montisferratenis."
The leaf of the vine is medium sized and five
lobed. The bunch forms a compact pyramid shape.
The fruit is oval and intensely blue. According
to the zone and to the methods of cultivation,
this vine can assume very different characteristics
especially in regards to the volume of fruit and
the quality of skin (in terms of colorants and
tannins). The Gujot system of cultivation is used
in our vineyards.
Short pruning (7-8 buds) and thinning of the
bunches in August provide for an exceptional quality
of the harvest. This process produces wines rich
in colour and of excellent structure and smoothness.
Such wines age well in the bottle over long periods
ensuring a quality product.
