| In
ancient times, the castle belonged to the Solaro
family, under the domain of the Bishop of Asti.
The Solaro gave way to the Alfieri, who enlarged
the property through trades and acquisitions.
In 1696, work began to transform the original
fortress into a splendid residence. The new castle,
designed by the Italian architect Bertola, would
be in the Piedmontese Baroque style of elegant
simple lines in harmony with the respective surroundings.
The construction of the residence was completed
in 1721.
The interiors are embellished with the best plaster
artisans of Comancino while the great hall is
a masterpiece by Antonio Catenazzi of Lugano.
In approximately 1820, a renovation under the
direction of architect Ernest Melano changed the
position of the surrounding village. A new parish
church and town hall were constructed and the
village was moved to its present site.
